Colored pencil on sketch paper
9"x12"
I created this drawing as an entry for Colored Pencil Magazine's monthly art challenge. Each month they post a reference photo for everyone to draw and enter into the online contest. The winners receive gift cards and those who enter every month receive a free subscription. Although I did not find the reference photo this month particularly inspiring, I decided that entering each month would be good motivation to develop my skills in colored pencils and gain some much needed feedback to continue to improve in this medium. This feels about 1/2 completed to me. Add more value/color variables for visual "spark" by using combos of analogous and complementary colors over some of your flat surfaces rendering in a different direction to fill more of the open areas of the white page.. More textural elements would make this more compelling to the viewer as well. Squint your eyes and you will see how this needs more value variables. The most interesting part of this drawing should be the windows, but they are overpowered by the strong browns. Remember...what IS the primary subject here?
Thanks for your feedback! I agree, after stepping away from it for a couple days, it definitely does look like it could use a lot more rendering and texture added to it.
I would LOVE to see this brought to fruition!
