The art challenge group that I'm a part of decided to continue on the theme of birds.  This one is a Willow Tit.  This reference gave me the opportunity to experiment with creating a background that has interest but is not distracting to the subject of the painting. 

Storytime

This quick drawing was created as an entry for Colored Pencil Magazine's monthly art challenge.  The photo reference (original by Sally Ford), presented many different textures with a very neutral color palette.  I made a few alterations to the original photo in my drawing by switching out one of the animals and adding a bit more color and character to each one.  

Paradise in Red

With the bitter cold weather that we've been having here in New York this winter, I wanted to escape to somewhere warm with palm trees and sunsets.  In this painting I experimented with bold, warm 

colors and dark silhouettes.
